What Battle to Fight

If you are a christian, you Believed that Jesus could save you from your sin, and asked Him to come into your heart and life. After your conversion is when the battle of your FAITH really began (Matt. 13:1-9,18-23)! You placed your Faith in Jesus and was born again. You experienced freedom from the power of sin and knew you would never have to suffer the penalty of sin. You could spend eternity with God forever! But then you committed an act of sin. And as you should have, you felt embarassed and guilty. You confessed your sin to God and asked Him to forgive you (1 John 1:9). So far you are living in God’s system of redemption as you should. And then you sin again.

The Devil, at this point, begins to put doubt in your mind. Here are some general questions that may have come to your mind. “How could I be so weak as to sin again?” “If I keep going at this rate, God won’t be able to accept me into heaven.” “Maybe I was never really saved because “real christians” aren’t supposed to act and desire stuff like I do.” “Will God keep forgiving me?” “What if I have sinned too much?” “How could I keep sinning against the God that has done so much for me?” “Maybe I am having these problems because I’m not doing enough “good” things?”

This is where the enemy of our souls, seeks to find the believers whom he can detour from The Faith. That is why THE BIBLE SAYS, “be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Pet. 5:8). To be devoured by a lion is a description of being killed, eaten and destroyed. This symbolism is to show us what the Lord sees when His children are deceived by false doctrine concerning what His Son has made available for them. And remember the ONLY Way to be free from the Devil’s control is by your Faith. The next verse in 1 Peter says exactly that! “Whom resist stedfast in The Faith” (1 Pet 5:9). The only way any believer cannot fall prey to the Devil’s schemes, is by continuing to exercise Faith in The Blood shed at Calvary by our Lord Jesus Christ as the answer and only answer for them to remain victorious in this regard. The Faith that first set us free from Satan’s dominion in our life, is the same Faith that will continue to keep us free from him regaining control within our lives. Yes, the Devil can be exercising power and authority within a believer’s life. But He can only do this if we allow him to. Colossians 2:15 informs us that principalities and powers of darkness were openly defeated at the Cross. So, the Devil and all those who work with him in the spirit world, have legally lost any power or rulership over anyone who Believes. We allow him and his forces back into our lives when we pollute our Faith in The Cross of Christ by not making it the only answer to his defeat. Ephesians 4:27, written to believers, said to “neither give place to the Devil”. This means that a believer CAN give place to the Devil! We do that by looking away from The Cross, the place our redemption was won, and unto ourselves and the plans of man for help in this regard. Why would we quit trusting in The Cross as the only answer?……

We must never forget. We received redemption by Believing the right Message. Redemption can never be lost as long as we keep Believing the right Message! It was correct Belief that got us redeemed, and the Devil knows it is incorrect Belief that could cause us to forfeit redemption. 2 Peter 2:10-22 discusses this very danger. Teachers within the “church” promise the people freedom, but instead bring the people back into bondage (vs 19). “Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin” is how God views these individuals. This is not talking about sexual sin!!! This is referring to spiritual adulterers (Rom. 7:1-4). They teach ways of the flesh as the means to be free from sin (2 Pet. 2:10,18-19). Remember, the flesh is the neutral part of ourselves that can either be rendered to the sin nature or to God (Rom. 6:12-14). These false apostles have left the simple message of redemption, and come up with ways men can free themselves from the bondages and power of sin. My friend, Jesus already did that for us, we just have to allow the Spirit to impart this freedom that is already ours. We do not access this by our good works. We access this by maintaining exclusive Faith in Jesus Christ and Him crucified (Rom. 7:25-8:4,11). “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them” (2 Pet. 2:20-21). God is trying to inform His people the end result if they continue to be spiritual adulterers! These are not individuals who don’t attend “church” and religious activities. These are individuals who are very religious and moral in our eyes. They want the freedom of redemption, but they have been deceived by the angel of light. They have either not known, or willingly turned away from the simple Message of redemption. They have had their Faith and focus turned to something other than Jesus Christ and what He did at The Cross. This is the danger for any of us! May God help us to maintain exclusive Faith in the work Jesus has performed for us at The Cross, as the only way God accepts and helps us, before AND AFTER our initial conversion!

Believers are NOT to battle the sin nature (Rom. 8:2,11). They are NOT to battle the Devil or forces of darkness (Eph. 6:10-12). The Lord has already defeated sin and Satan (Col. 2:10-23). These are both defeated foes within a Believers life. But, they must know that and Believe that. If they will Believe and put their Faith in God alone, the finished work and victory of Christ will be manifested in their heart. They will notice a change within that they didn’t “work” to attain. This will result in praise and thanksgiving to God alone who knows how to rescue His children! Not praise to a program or method practiced.

Believers do have to fight battles. They have to battle their flesh. They have to continually offer their bodies as a living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1). They have to quit thinking of their redemption in the way they think about the natural world. They are to renew their way of thinking about redemption and it’s benefits within the confines of the Law of Faith (Rom. 3:27). They have to rely on grace. They are supposed to yield their flesh to God, and rely on His power to keep the root problem (the sin nature) dormant in their heart (Rom. 6:13). They are to be SO DEPENDENT, and at the same time SO CONFIDENT of the God they serve, that they live as though they don’t even have a sin nature (Rom.6:11)  This is the battle to Keep The Faith.

Believers have to fight the battle of knowing who Believes The Truth, and who doesn’t. “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which you have learned: and avoid them” (Rom. 16:17). “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as you have us for an example. For MANY walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of  The Cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things” (Phil. 3:17-19). Paul warns Timothy to beware of those who would have “a form of Godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away” (2 Tim. 3:5). These individuals would “resist The Truth, men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning The Faith” (2 Tim. 3:8). Believers are to know the foundation of all Bible doctrine so they will not be deceived by another gospel (Gal. 1:6-9, 3:1-14). This should be the concern of every Believer. Are you concerned about knowing The Truth and remaining in The Truth? It should be the most important thing in your life!

“For though we walk in the flesh (mortal bodies), we do not war after the flesh (use the power within ourselves to overcome our spiritual enemies) : for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (our weapons are not any process or solution for sin or Satanic attacks that man has devised in their religious mind), but mighty through God (God’s power and resources are where a Believer draws their strength) to the pulling down of strong holds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God (a Believer is to turn away from any doctrine that is contrary to God’s Divine Design for redemption), and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ (not to the obedience of the Law focusing on our moral performance, but instead bringing every thought into submission to the knowledge of Jesus Christ and Him crucified as the only Solution for redemption, and Faith as the only Way to access and maintain the benefits of redemption); and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience (Not just in retaliation to violating God’s moral law, but also to retaliate against any form of doctrine that contradicts grace through Faith in The Cross of Christ for victory over sin and evil forces in the spirit realm) when your obedience is fulfilled (your obedience is fulfilled as you maintain your faith in The Cross for everything needed and provided in God’s redemption plan, this obedience will ultimately bring about your glorification)” (2 Cor. 10:3-6).

A Believer is called to fight the fight of Love. They are to show kindness and love to those who stand opposed to The Faith. “Love your enemies, bless them who curse you, do good to them who hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matt. 5:43). This does not mean that you worship with them. This means you don’t use the seriousness of false doctrine as an excuse to hate. We are to hate no individuals. We are to hate anything that stands opposed to God’s Divine Design for redemption. But, never people. Jesus was living this principle out before His hearers eyes. He came to save even His enemies. Pray for those around you that are opposed to The Faith. And, don’t let opposition keep you from spreading the Love of God and The Truth.
