Redemption from the Power of Sin

Although we had originally been created in the image of God, and still bear some of those traits, after the fall we became, by nature, children of the devil (John 8:42-47). The Devil had a legal right, so to speak, to rule in our lives due to the fact that our sinful nature and mind is hostile towards God like his (Rom. 8:6-7). Due to the fall, we are all born into this sinful condition. We have all been enslaved by the sin nature (Rom. 3:10-18,23). We have been servants to and controlled by the sinful passions of this nature (Rom. 6:18,20). But when Jesus took the punishment for our sins, sin lost it’s power. Both the penalty and the power of sin was broken at The Cross (Col. 2:13-15). “The strength of sin is the Law” (1Cor. 15:56-57). A Believer will never be judged according to the Law. Our sins have already been judged by God when we believed and placed our Faith in Jesus. Let me state it again. If you have your Faith in what Jesus Christ did at The Cross to be the solution and the only solution for the sin that separates you from God the Father, you will never be judged in regards to how your works and moral performance measure up to God’s standard of righteousness. God will not judge you according to what you do, but according to your Faith in what His Son has done! Jesus’ blood has paid the penalty for and taken away our past, present and future sins, never to be remembered by God. You are completely in right standing with God. The Judge of heaven has “seen your case” and declared you “not guilty” of any wrong doing. Despite the fact that you are guilty, you have been found innocent of all charges! The penalty has been paid. Because of this verdict, God can not only abide with you, but in you (1 Cor.3:16). This indwelling of the Holy Spirit changes everything (Rom. 8:1-4)!

Because the penalty was paid and the legal right that the Devil had over us is gone, the power of God can move into our hearts and lives. The power of God in our lives is the indwelling of His Holy Spirit. Jesus said to enter into the kingdom of God we must be born again (John 3:3). This refers to us being born of the Spirit and being made spiritually alive unto God again. When you first Believe and place your Faith in The Way of redemption being Jesus Christ and what He did at The Cross, the Holy Spirit does a work inside you and begins to dwell within you. God recreates us, changing us inwardly into His children. He makes us “new creatures” in Christ Jesus (2 Cor. 5:17). This recreation inside of us, changes us inwardly into His offspring again. We are born of God (1 John 5:18). We are the children of God (Rom.8:14-17). This indwelling of the Holy Spirit provides the only power source by which mankind can live free from the sin natures’ control over our lives (Rom. 8:1-3). Initial redemption was a work of the Spirit predicated on your Faith. Continually living in the benefits of your redemption is a work of the Spirit predicated on your Faith. These benefits don’t come to us automatically. But we don’t have to work to receive them either. Our religious and moral efforts do not produce these benefits in our lives. Our spiritual disciplines don’t produce these benefits in our lives. God has already made available everything we need for life and Godliness (2 Pet. 1:1-3). What part of EVERYTHING do we not understand?

God’s solution provided EVERYTHING we need “that pertain to life and Godliness” (2 Pet. 1:3) We can be “partakers of the Divine nature” and escape “the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Pet. 1:4). God’s solution provided freedom and deliverance from the power of the sin nature within us, the power of the Devil and forces of darkness. We no longer have to be a slave to the passions of our flesh and sin nature. We can have the very nature of God, His Spirit, influence and empowerment throughout our lives. The flesh (our bodies) can now be daily yielded to God as living sacrifices (Rom 12:1). As we do this in proper Faith, the Holy Spirit can “put down” the desires of the sin nature where we are no longer compelled and dominated by sin (Rom. 6:14). Trusting in God’s solution and yielding to Him His Way, automatically says “no” to the sins that so easily hinder us. Our mind and heart can experience Divine (righteous and Godly) desires AND experience the power to live out this new life every day. Everyone lives as either a slave to the sin nature, or as a slave to God empowered by the Holy Spirit. But His “slavery” is the most freeing life anyone can live! Many people who are slaves to the sin nature don’t realize it as such. Many christians have came to the conclusion that slavery to sin is normal in the christian life. And for many it is. But they don’t have to live that way! Freedom from sin is not so much about the individual saying “no” to sin, but living every moment of your day saying “yes” to Christ. This allows the Holy Spirit the latitude to work within us to enable us to live a holy (set apart) life.

If you are a Believer and not experiencing this kind of freedom, it is not because it is not available to you. The problem isn’t on God’s part. The problem is with you. God has made a redemption plan so readily accessible to everyone, that our minds have trouble Believing it is that simple. We devise our own “laws” within our minds in order to be partakers of His Divine nature and experience the benefits of our redemption. Or we adopt the “laws” of our religious organization, other religious individuals, the “laws” promoted in the “Christian” book stores or the “laws” we have created ourselves. Now if you would have told me several years ago that I was living under “law”, I would have thought you were crazy. And maybe you are reading this and think I am crazy. You are wondering what I am talking about “law” for. We are all under “grace” now since Jesus died on The Cross. We live in the dispensation, or era of grace. But, that doesn’t mean we will experience the benefits of this era. Any Believer can live their life under the principle of law and not experience the benefits of this great salvation. The principle of law is “labor for reward”. If I do this “spiritual activity”, then God will reward me for it. This will be discussed further, but know this: man-devised laws always get your focus on yourself and your performance of steps or tasks in order for you to attain something that God has already provided through the performance of His Son.

Now, under the New Covenant, if you are a Believer, you have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. You have the power of God living within you. You don’t have to perform religious activities or ceremonies to receive the Holy Spirit. And you don’t have to do anything like this to have Him maintain your victory over the power of sin. All you have to do is place your Faith in God’s Answer For these problems. BELIEVE what God has said, and RECEIVE what God said He would provide. God’s benefits and deliverance from sin may not come immediately. But if you don’t give up trusting, relying and depending (having Faith) on Him exclusively, He will bring it about. He wants to bring it about. His Son died to give it to you. And He will bring it about! He will deliver His people from their sins and from the dominion of darkness ruling in their lives. “And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus: for He shall save HIS PEOPLE from their sins” (Matt. 1:21). He came and died on The Cross not only to save unbelievers from their sin, but also to save the redeemed from their sins! He is still in the sin delivering business, no matter if you are a Believer or unbeliever. “They who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isa. 40:31). “The Lord will give strength to His people” (Psalms 29:11). This website is to provide you with what the Bible declares as truth, no matter who agrees with it, so you can declare, ” the Lord is the strength of my life” (Psalms 27:1). Not so you can declare your church, counselor, pastor or recovery group is the strength of your life. None of these died in order that you might live. And none of these should we glory in. Our only glory or boasting should be in The Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ (Gal. 6:14). Why? Because it is the ONLY WAY to have victory over the sin nature and the lusts of this world, while we live in this world.
